If you love teaching; You can still do it non-academic settings

In academic setting you can be flexible

In non-academic setting preferably an inpatient multidisciplinary setting like ICU is preferred.

How this works?

Generally if you are an attending physician only than you have to do your full FTE.

Teaching young physicians is expected during rotation

If you gain a title for e.g. Associate program director or program director you get a discount on your FTE and your clinical FTE gets reduced to 0.8

Is Mentorship still Valued?

Mentor-mentee relationships are challenged by increased clinical, research, and administrative demands.

Moreover, mentorship is often undervalued by academic institutions.
